The golden rules
Never share your OTP
One-time passwords are for you alone. No genuine support agent, "manager" or "agent" needs them.
Never share your password or PIN
Not by chat, call, email or screen-sharing, not even with someone claiming to be official.
Install apps only from official sources
Avoid APK files from social media, messaging groups or unknown links. Modified apps can steal data.
Use unique passwords
A long, unique password per account limits damage if one service is breached. A password manager can help.
Enable extra verification when offered
Two-step verification adds a second barrier even if your password leaks.
Common scams to recognise
Fake "prediction" tools and hacks
Apps, bots or paid groups claiming to predict results are a classic scam. Outcomes cannot be reliably predicted, and these tools often exist to collect deposits or install malware.
Fake support and recovery agents
If you complain publicly, scammers may message you offering to "recover" money for a fee. Contact support only through the platform's official channels.
Phishing links and look-alike sites
Messages urging you to "verify your account", "claim a bonus" or "avoid suspension" often lead to copycat pages. Check the web address carefully and avoid clicking links in unsolicited messages.
Withdrawal-unlock fees
Any request to pay a fee, tax or "security deposit" before you can withdraw funds is a major red flag.
Warning signs checklist
- Someone you've never met offers guaranteed profit.
- You're pressured to act immediately or told an offer will expire.
- You're asked to move the chat to another app or to share your screen.
- The link, app name or logo looks slightly "off".
- You're asked for card, UPI PIN, banking passwords or OTPs.
If something goes wrong
- Change your passwords immediately, starting with email and banking.
- Contact your bank or payment provider right away to report suspicious transactions.
- Keep screenshots, transaction IDs and messages as evidence.
- In India, report cyber fraud on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or call 1930. Elsewhere, contact your local cybercrime authority.
Protect yourself financially
Real-money games carry the risk of loss and can become compulsive. Set limits in advance, never borrow to play, and take regular breaks. If you feel unable to stop, speak to someone you trust or a mental health professional. In India, Tele-MANAS offers free support on 14416.
